U.S. troops land in Nicaragua to protect U.S.
citizens during revolution. Marines had
previously land in Nicaragua in 1896 to protect
President Taft severed official relations with
Nicaragua's Zelaya government, and declared
support for the revolutionaries.
Robert E. Peary leads expedition team to North
President William Howard Taft opens 700K acres
for settlement in the West.
W.E.B. DuBois founds National Association for
the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
First Lincoln-head pennies produced by the U.S.
Fifteen students meet at North School to start
high school classes. FIve years later a
referendum of about 1300 voters decides to build
Arlington Height Township High School.
Arlington Heights Township High School's
graduates its first class while accredited by
the State of Illinois in 1913.
From 1907 to 1923 high school classes in
Arlington Heights were held in the grade school
buildings that were located at the site of the
current Arlington Heights Park District
Headquarters, the old North School.
