Metra is Chicago suburban rail system that serves the city of Chicago, Illinois, United States and surrounding suburbs. The rail service that serves Arlington Heights is the Union Pacific Northwest Line. Arlington Heights is served by two stations: Downtown Arlington Heights and Arlington Park. [SCHEDULE]

The fastest inbound semi-express trip to Chicago is the 8:01 (Train #628), which stops only at Clybourn. The trip under normal conditions takes 35 minutes.

The fastest outbound semi-express trip from Chicago is the 6:01 p.m. (Train #651), which stops only at Clybourn. The trip under normal conditions takes 33 minutes.

All stops between downtown Arlington Heights and Chicago include Mount Prospect, Cumberland, Des Plaines, Dee Road, Park Ridge, Edison Park, Norwood Park, Gladstone Park, Jefferson Park, Irving Park, Clybourn and finally Chicago.

The entire Northwest Line includes 23 stations.

The entire railroad serves 239 stations on 11 different rail lines across the Regional Transportation Authority’s six-county service area (Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will Counties) providing over 80 million rides annually.

Illinois formed the Regional Transportation Authority in 1974 to fund and plan the Chicago region’s public transportation. In 1984 all of RTA’s rail operations were reorganized into Metra.
